Resolution Calculator

Crunch resolution and aspect-ratio math for your gaming setup: simplify any resolution to its aspect, and see common targets at the same ratio.

Whether you're setting up a stretched 4:3 config like CS2 pros, planning an ultrawide 21:9 monitor, or finding the right render scale for performance, this calculator handles the resolution math instantly.

How it works

Divide width and height by their greatest common divisor to get the simplified ratio:

1920:1080 → gcd 120 → 16:9

The tool then lists equivalent resolutions at the same aspect for 1080p/1440p/4K targets.

Example

3440×1440 simplifies to 43:18 ≈ 21:9. At the same ratio, a 21:9-friendly 1080p render would be 2580×1080.

The math behind it

ratio = width ÷ gcd(width,height) : height ÷ gcd(width,height)

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I stretch a 4:3 resolution on a 16:9 monitor?

Set the game to a 4:3 resolution (e.g. 1280×960) and disable "image scaling" / use GPU stretch so the monitor stretches it. The simplified ratio above confirms your resolution is true 4:3.

What's the best gaming aspect ratio?

16:9 is the compatibility sweet spot. 21:9 ultrawide trades some performance for wider FOV (at equal hip-fire sensitivity); 4:3 stretched gives larger, wider character models at the cost of image sharpness.

Is 1440p the same PPI as 4K?

No. PPI depends on physical screen size. 2560×1440 on 27" is ~109 PPI; 3840×2160 on 27" is ~163 PPI. Use the PPI calculator for display math.
